Giving Thanks: Ridgefield High School winter concert
To the Editor:
Mr. McNamara, the band and orchestra director, and Mr. Haines, the choral director, teamed up with our talented music students to deliver a spectacular evening performance at the Ridgefield High School Visual & Performing Arts Winter Concert on Dec.12 in the Ann S. Richardson Auditorium. The auditorium’s namesake would have been very pleased to see the building used for such a fantastic program with such incredible talent.
The Concert Band opened with a wonderful rendition of Manhattan Beach and ended with Rhythm of the Winds.
The Wind Ensemble followed with a terrific playing of West Side Story show tunes and then closed with a snowy Sleigh Ride.
The Choir sounded so beautiful! They sang S’Vivon, Sicut Cervus, Silent Night (in English and German!), The Parting Glass and Danny Boy. They closed out with a student voted choice of Falling Slowly that was totally amazing.
The Concert Orchestra is a brand-new edition to the music program. Their great performance repertoire started with Air on the G String, followed by Little Fugue in G Minor, Gymnopedie No. 1, and Eine Keine Nachtmusik.
Closing out the show was the Symphonic Orchestra doing Fantasia and Fugue in C Minor, Enigma variations: IX.Nimrod, and Symphony No. 8 in G major by Antonin Dvorak that brought the house to its feet!
We are indeed lucky to be able to see this level of performance so close to home! Please join us at the future performances listed below and in thanking Mr. McNamara, Mr. Haines, Principal Dr. Stacey Gross, Visual and Performing Arts Department Chair Michael Rivera, the Enchanted Garden Conservatory, the Enchanted Garden Productions Recording & Production Studio, the Executive Panel parent group, Lisa Bua, and most of all, the talented RHS students who put together a beautiful Holiday Concert. Have a warm and wonderful holiday and a very Happy New Year!
