GOP Viewpoint: Dedicated leaders
The Town of Ridgefield and the State of Connecticut are fortunate to have two dedicated elected officials who represent us in Hartford. State Sen. Toni Boucher and state Rep. John Frey are both well respected veterans in Hartford and in our community.
Sen. Boucher represents six towns in addition to Ridgefield: New Canaan, Wilton, Weston, Bethel, Redding and Westport.
Toni is often referred to as the "The Energizer Bunny,” as she never seems to miss an event in any of the towns she represents. At the same time, she is our voice in Hartford, diligently working on our behalf.
Unfortunately, we have already seen attacks on Toni by the opposition, and as Election Day grows closer, they will increase. They will try to paint Toni as some kind of ideologue, nothing could be farther from the truth. Toni is a compassionate, caring person whose record belies those claims. Many organizations have honored Toni for her public service. Here is a partial list of the awards: Art Advocate of the Year, Community Leader Award, Music Education Advocate Award, Women of the Year Children’s Champion Award, Environmental Award. As a legislator Toni serves a Deputy Minority Leader, Ranking Member of the Legislative Education Committee and Higher Education Committee. As a legislator, for years Sen. Boucher has warned us about the excessive spending and taxation foisted on us by the Democratic majority and the disastrous repercussions it would have on Connecticut.
Regrettably, she was correct, as we all know the dire straits that our state is presently in. This is why we need a Republican governor and legislature and why we need a leader like Toni back in Hartford.
We also need to return John Frey to Hartford. For 20 years, John has served Ridgefield, his calm voice of reason and understanding has earned him respect from both sides of the aisle. John is the consummate Ridgefielder, who works hard not just in Hartford, but locally. He is a member of Chamber of Commerce, he has served as an advisory member of Meals on Wheels, a trustee of the Ridgefield Historical Society, the Ridgefield Community Center. In 2018, Rep. Frey introduced several bills to the House pertaining to education, health care for women and children, veterans’ rights, pay equity and ghost guns. John Frey has been Ridgefield’s advocate for funding for the library, Route 7, local education, public safety, senior citizens and the list goes on. We need John Frey back in Hartford to continue his efforts on our behalf. As with Toni, there have been attacks on John and I am sure there will be more. I am sure the citizens of our community will see these attacks for what they are, bullying, half-truths and innuendo by desperate naysayers.
We need John back in Hartford to help turn this state around. It is said, that good people speak the truth, act with truth, and stand for truth. Toni Boucher and John Frey live up to that principle.
