William Schmitt, head of Ticketron
William Jude Schmitt of Ridgefield Connecticut died on October 28th. He was 85 years old and was the devoted husband of the late Janet Hurley Schmitt.
He earned his Bachelor's degree at Queens College and his MBA from New York University, and attained the rank of Captain in the National Guard.
He began his business career at the National Broadcasting Company at the dawn of the age of television. Over the next two decades he had great success traveling around the world negotiating deals for NBC. He left NBC in 1973 to become the President of Ticketron as the business of automated ticketing was in its infancy.
He retired in 1990 and spent many years traveling with his wife. He was also an active member, and former President, of the Ridgefield Men's Club.
His son William F. Schmitt and his daughter Margaret M. Schmitt predeceased him.
He is survived by his son John P. Schmitt and daughter-in-law Sylvia Picard-Schmitt of New York City, his daughter Amy McGoldrick and son-in-law Neil McGoldrick of Garden City, New York, and his daughter-in-law Nancy Schmitt of Oxford Connecticut.
He is also survived by his grandchildren Emily Dennis and her husband Brady Dennis, Patrick, Daniel and Peter Schmitt, Liam, Caleigh, Frank and Kieran McGoldrick, and Will, Becky and Harry Schmitt and great-grandson James William Dennis.
He is also survived by his sister Margaret Bowmaster and her husband Patrick, and by his brother-in-law Terrence Hurley and his wife Roberta.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 2, 2015 at 10:15 AM at St. Mary Church; 55 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Ridgefield.
Friends and relatives will be received on Sunday, November 1, 2015 from 2 to 5 PM at Kane Funeral Home; 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield.
