Walter D. Boyce, 85, historian, veteran
Walter D. Boyce, 85, of Ridgefield, husband of Emma (Schimanski) Boyce, died on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at Danbury Hospital.
Mr. Boyce was born in Bridgeport, CT, May 4, 1929, the son of Willis and Charlotte “Lottie” (Gilbert) Boyce and was raised in Ridgefield where he attended local schools, graduated from Ridgefield High Schools in the Class of 1947 and Quinnipiac University. He was employed with Sperry Products of Danbury and Data Control of Danbury until he joined the U.S. Postal Service in 1963 and retired in 1990 after 27 years of service.
He was a U.S. Navy Korean War veteran.
A lifelong Ridgefield resident, Mr. Boyce was a member of the American Legion, O.W.L.S. and St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.
Mr. Boyce was a historian, statistician and an avid lover of music and played the bass fiddle, standing up base, piano, cello and banjo.
In addition to his wife of forty-seven years, Mr. Boyce is survived by a daughter, Amanda J. Hicks and her husband, Shaun and their daughter, Erin Charlotte all of Bridgeport.
A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 2 p.m. in St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 351 Main St., Ridgefield.
There will be no calling hours.
The family will receive friends following the service at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church Fellowship Hall.
