Vernard Gaudet, 88, served in U.S. Marine Corps
Vernard J. Gaudet, 88, of Ridgefield, husband of Fay (Scovil) Gaudet, died on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Danbury Hospital.
Mr. Gaudet was born in Milford, MA, December 27, 1925, a son of Joseph and Rose (Soucy) Gaudet,
As a child, he relocated with his family to New Canaan, CT where he attended New Canaan schools and in later years moved with his family to New Jersey.
In 1944, Mr. Gaudet enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. and served until 1968 when he was honorably discharged attaining the rank of Master Sergeant
He was then employed by the Pease Corporation and in 1972, established the Piedmont Swimming Pool Company of Ridgefield. Mr. Gaudet retired in 1999.
A resident of Ridgefield since 1968, he was a member of the Ridgefield Men’s Club, American Legion, V.F.W., Founders Hall and the First Congregational Church of Bethel.
He enjoyed bowling, softball and was a former umpire with the Ridgefield Babe Ruth League.
In addition to his wife of sixty-one years, Mr. Gaudet is survived by four sons, Vernard D. Gaudet and his wife, Deborah of Newtown, CT, Mark A, Gaudet and his wife, Theresa of Bethel, CT, Robert J. Gaudet and his wife, Miah of Pfafftown, NC and Michael A. Gaudet and his wife, Patti of Pinellas Park, FL; grandchildren, Vern and his wife, Erin, Dan and his wife, Jayme, Adam and his wife Michelle, Scott, Ashlee, Alan, Matthew, Nicholas and Kyle and great grandchildren, Emma, Paige and Lucie
In addition to his parents, Mr. Gaudet was predeceased by two brothers, Royce and Joseph and by a sister, Joan.
A memorial service with military honors will take place on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 1 p.m. in the First Congregational Church of Bethel, 46 Main St., Bethel, CT. The family will receive friends following the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregation Church of Bethel, the Visiting Nurses Association, 90 East Ridge, Ridgefield, CT 06877 or to the American Lung Association, 45 Ash St., East Hartford, CT 06108. Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield is in charge of arrangements.
