Verna 'Jean' Budd, 92, flight attendant, bowler
Mrs. Budd was born in Galesburg, Kansas on February 11, 1922, the daughter of Chester and Hazel (Redman) Willis. She spent her childhood years living in Kansas, graduating from Chanute High School and Chanute Junior College.
Following her graduation she flew for two years for American Airlines as a flight attendant starting on Christmas Day, 1943.
In 1945, she married William Edward Budd and through the completion of his education and his work, they lived in Missouri, Illinois, and California before moving to Connecticut, where they lived in Stamford before finally settling down in Ridgefield. They retired to Harrisonburg, Virginia and then Mrs. Budd returned to Ridgefield following the passing of her husband to be closer to her family and friends.
Jean loved bowling, golf, and was an avid bridge player up until a year ago. She was a devoted viewer to her soaps and loved her sweets, particularly anything chocolate. But perhaps her greatest love was that for her family.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Bart Keaveny of Ridgefield; her son and daughter-in-law William E. and Linda Budd, Jr., from Des Moines, Iowa; four grandchildren, Kim Keaveny West and husband Jim of Wilton, Brian Keaveny and wife Kristine of Ridgefield, Brandy Jankowski and husband Craig of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, Brookelyn Budd of Ankeny, Iowa; her six beloved great-grandchildren, Tommy and Karilyn Keaveny; Sara and Anna West; and Clare and Gracelyn Jankowski, along with many nieces, nephews, and other close friends whose lives she touched.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 28, 2014 from 4pm-7pm at the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield, with a Wake Service at 6:45 pm. Burial will take place in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Regional Hospice and Home Care of Western Connecticut, 39 Old Ridgebury Road, Danbury, CT 06810.
