Theodore D. Gilbert, a longtime Stamford resident, died on Friday, Sept. 5, at the age of 89.

He was born in New York City on Dec. 8, 1924, to the late Louis and Fannie Gilbert.

Mr. Gilbert attended the Bronx School of Science, Yale University, and received a master’s in accounting from New York University. He was a naval officer in the United States Navy during WWII.

He was a partner at Gilbert & Pollan CPAs in New York and president of Gallard-Schlesinger Chemical Company in Carle Place, N.Y. He enjoyed golf.

On Aug. 29, 1948, he married his wife of 65 years, Barbara M. Brodner. They lived in Boca Raton, Fla., and Stamford. Mr. Gilbert was predeceased by his wife and his sister Elaine Greene. He is survived by his children Robert Gilbert, of Hamden, Patricia Yaffa of Ridgefield, William Gilbert and his wife Elizabeth of Stamford; grandchildren Jeremy Gilbert and his wife Shayna, Jamie Yaffa, Benjamin Gilbert, Julie Yaffa and her fiancé Ryan Hughes, Laura Gilbert; and great-grandchildren Della and Maeve Gilbert.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Sept. 7, at Temple Sinai, 458 Lakeside Drive, Stamford. Burial will be private. To leave an online condolence visit leopgallagherstamford.com.
