Sandra “Sandi” Rose, a longtime Ridgefield school board and PTA leader, died Saturday morning, Dec. 15, after a long illness.

Sandi was born on June 25th in Brooklyn, New York, to Louis and Pauline Serota.  She attended Franklin K. Lane High School in Brooklyn and Brooklyn College.  Later she met and married Ronald Rose of Queens NY on January 2, 1960.  They moved to Ridgefield in 1965.

In the mid 1970’s she began a long and illustrious career with the Ridgefield Public School System.  She served as president of the Ridgebury PTA, East Ridge Junior High PTA and Ridgefield High School PTSA.  She was also president of the Joint Council of PTAS in the 1980’s.

In 2001, she was elected to the Board of Education and became its chair in 2005 shortly after being elected to her second term.  On the board, she had been an advocate for full-day kindergarten and for teaching foreign languages in the elementary schools.  She retired from the board in 2011.

Over the years she had worked in various positions for the Ridgefield Schools working at Ridgebury Elementary and East Ridge Middle School.  Later she became a full time Real Estate Agent at Century 21 Landmark Properties.

She is survived by her loving husband Ronald and her two sons and their families, David and Karen Rose of Mont Vernon NH and Peter and Lauren Rose of Philadelphia PA.  Sandi was a proud and loving grandmother to her 5 grandchildren Bryan, Abigail, Joshua, Eli and Charlotte.  She is also survived by her sister Arlene and her husband Howard Isserles as well as her brother Jack and his wife Marian Rose.  In addition she is survived by her nephews Matthew and Adam Rose, and Joseph and Paul Isserles and their families.

Services took place  Monday, Dec. 17, at Sinai Chapels, Fresh Meadows, Queens, N.Y.  Burial was at Beth David Cemetery in Elmont, N.Y.

Shiva took place Tuesday, Dec. 18,  at the family home in Ridgefield.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in Sandi’s honor to a memorial charity for the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT.
