Obituary: William C. Whittemore III, 71
William “Bill” C. Whittemore III, was born in Larchmont, NY to William C. Whittemore Jr. and Suzette S. Whittemore. He passed away on April 4, at age 71 after a long fight with cancer. He was the beloved husband of 44 years and best friend of Emily (Boden) Whittemore with whom he traveled the world, raised a family and faced all of life’s challenges.
Bill graduated from Mamaroneck High School in 1964, from Villanova University in 1968 (B.A.), and from George Washington University Law School in 1971 (J.D.). Bill had three phases to his legal career, first as an Associate with a NYC law firm, then as Senior Counsel and Assistant General Counsel in the legal departments of two publicly traded corporations, and finally, for the past 20+ years, as head of the business law firm he founded in Ridgefield, Connecticut. He was also a commercial arbitrator for a state-wide Connecticut dispute resolution organization, and served on the Boards of his church and several nonprofits during his career.
Bill is survived by his wife, two children, Todd C. Whittemore of Wilmington, N.C. and Claire E. Whittemore of Stamford CT., and by three brothers and two sisters (Louis Henry “Hank” Whittemore), James M. Whittemore, Suzanne (Whittemore) Morris, Richard F. Whittemore, and Marianne (Whittemore) Durgin. Bill regretted that he wasn’t able to say goodbye to each and every one of his dear friends, but was ever grateful for his relationships.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 9th at South Salem Presbyterian Church in Lewisboro, New York. Munson Lovetere Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements.
