Sandra Dale Jackson Jenny, RHS class of 1967, who played Liat in The Sound of Music, and who remained Younger than Springtime until the end, died on September 25, 2017, in Winchester, Virginia.

Sandra was the daughter of Elizabeth J. and William E. Jackson, Jr. of Tally-Ho Road, and the older sister to Donna Drumm of Danbury, CT; Wendy McConnell of Lugoff, South Carolina; and Tracey Jackson of Bethel, CT.

Sandra graduated from George Washington University, and attended Ithaca College and James Madison University. She was a model, a dancer and a choreographer; an actor, director and producer of dance recitals, high school musicals and Shakespearean plays. She managed the international law office of her dear friend L. Harvey Poe; wrote and edited; taught high school enrichment classes for gifted and talented students; and directed Clarke County, Virginia’s, Gifted and Talented Program for students of all ages.

Sandra was gifted and talented herself: when her high school students expressed an interest in Japanese language and culture, she connected her school to a satellite feed from the University of Virginia, and learned enough Japanese to direct her students, and to stun her father, who had served in the China-Burma-India Theater of World War II.

For the past decade, Sandra had taught fourth and fifth grade students at The D.G. Cooley Elementary School, in Berryville, Virginia. Her students became more polite, more responsible, and more open to learning under her tutelage.
Sandra enjoyed music, reading, word games, puzzles, knitting, sewing, crocheting, art and music, and birding. She played the recorder, beautifully. She hiked, stayed fit, and loved Zumba until she could dance no more.

Sandra’s most remarkable production was her son, Jack (Charles Jackson) Jenny. Jack was his mother’s skilled nurse for her last year, serving with devotion, care and expertise, and returning the love she had invested in him from his birth.

In addition to her sisters and her son, Sandra is survived by her husband of 42 years, Brian Paul Jenny.

Carolyn Watts of Lake Frederick, Virginia, a fellow teacher and dear friend, also was especially devoted to Sandra, as was Sandra’s cousin and lifelong friend, Denise Johnson, of Fairfield, Connecticut.

The family is establishing a scholarship fund to benefit members of Sandra’s last 5th Grade class, and donations may be sent to Brian Paul Jenny, at 217 Parkway Street, Winchester, Virginia, 22601.
