Richard L. Martin, age 73, native of Ridgefield, CT, died Thursday, August 23, 2018 in Tucson, AZ after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. He moved to the Southwest to enjoy his retirement in a region he loved.

Son of the late Dr. Philip and June Martin of Ridgefield, Richard led a happy and fulfilling life of passion and service to others. He served his country in the Navy during the Vietnam War, earning medals for his bravery and valor, followed by a career in civil life as a charter pilot.

He was a devoted husband and father of three, raising a family with his late wife Valerie in Bethel, CT. Of the many joys he shared with his kids, none influenced them more than his love of the great outdoors.

He is survived by his brother Stephen Martin of VT, his sisters Patricia Martin of MA and Barbara Glass of PA, and his three children, Alex, Jake, and Caitlin. Per his request, no formal funeral arrangements have been made. Special thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Casas Adobes Senior Assisted Living, and to his loving friend Catalina for her companionship and dedication to his care.

Richard charmed everyone he met with his gentle kindness, humor, and warm smile, always putting the needs of others before his own. He had a meaningful impact on all who knew him and will be dearly missed, though his spirit will live on in our hearts forever.

Donations in his honor can be made to your local Veterans organization.
