Obituary: Patricia Ruhl, 85, of Danbury, formerly of Ridgefield
Patricia Ruhl, 85, of Danbury, formerly of Ridgefield, died peacefully on January 30, 2018 from cancer at the Regional Hospice Center in Danbury. She was the loving wife of Mr. Edward Ruhl.
Mrs. Ruhl was born on Staten Island, NY to Helen and James Hyland on May 25, 1932. She graduated from New Dorp High School and worked in New York City as a secretary until 1954. She married Ed is 1953 and they celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary last October. They lived in Staten Island, NY; Freehold, NJ; Ridgefield and Danbury, CT. While in Ridgefield, Pat was involved in the CCD program as a religious education teacher and also as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary’s Church of Ridgefield. She was a bookkeeper at St. Mary’s for 22 years. She had a very strong faith which guided her through both the good and bad times.
Along with making baby quilts for her friends and family, Pat’s favorite pastimes were sewing, photography and gardening. She was an avid Hummel collector and could often be found at the Hallmark display picking out cards for family and friends. She and her husband loved travelling the world, however it was Long Beach Island, NJ that held a special place in her heart. There was no doubt that her 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren were her pride and joy.
Besides her husband, Ed, she leaves behind her 7 children: Kathy Ruhl of Bethel, CT; Susan Wence (Steve) of Winchester, VA and their 3 children, Katie (Matt) Sizemore and their 2 boys, Wyatt and Walker, Dane Wence (Sarah) and Luke Wence (Christina) and their son, Graham; Ed Ruhl (Nancy) of Westborough, MA and their 3 boys, Brian, Kevin and Matt; Jim Ruhl of Danbury, CT; Patty Principi (John) of Sandy Hook, CT and their 3 children, Sara, Jessica and Matt; Nancy Hurley (Tim) of Wakefield, MA and their 4 children, Grace, Timmy, Caroline and Danny; Steve Ruhl (Andrea) of Beacon Falls, CT and their twin daughters, Emily and Meghan. She is also survived by two sisters, Maureen Hansen of Staten Island, NY and Barbara Adone of Toms River, NJ and sisters-in-law, Linda Hyland of Staten Island and Marilyn Codd of Greenwich, CT; 20 nieces and nephews and 45 grand nieces and nephews and many cousins. She was predeceased by two sisters, Cathleen Fisher and Karen Wallace and a brother, James Hyland.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 55 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, 110 North Street, Ridgefield. Friends will be received on Friday, February 2, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield.
