Nancy Houghton, 90-years-old, a longtime resident of Hastings, NY, and more recently of Ridgefield, CT, died October 10, 2018, after a short illness. The mother of longtime Ridgefield resident Clifford Moran, she was born Nancy Fry to Kenneth Davey Fry and Margaret Freshley Fry in 1928 in Chicago, IL. She attended George Washington University and Reed College, before graduating from Antioch College. She received a graduate degree from Teacher’s College at Columbia University.

A passionate world traveler and teacher, she remained engaged and sharp to the end.

She was married to Joseph Moran from 1952 through 1968; She was married to Oliver Houghton from 1976 to 1984. Her career spanned stints at Bell Labs in New York, New York Life Insurance Company, DuPont, co-owner of The Bohemia River Marina in Chesapeake City, MD, and a teaching career that included Murray Avenue School in Larchmont, NY, Cecil County (MD) Public Schools, The Pan American School of Bahia in Salvador, Brazil, The International School of Turin in Turin, Italy, Pace University, Westchester Community College. She taught well into her late 80s, and continued volunteer tutoring until this year. She was a fierce advocate for math competence and improved math instruction.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Susan Stevens, and her daughter, Kathleen Moran. She is survived by her sons, Douglas Moran (Laura) of Denver, CO, Clifford Moran of Ridgefield, 
CT, grandson Dennis Moran of Brooklyn, NY, and granddaughters Sarah Moran of Olympia WA, Lisa Moran of New York, NY, and Erica Moran of Ridgefield, CT.
