Marjorie Ryan McKee Casagrande passed away on Friday, July 27, 2018.

She was born on her parents’ farm in Bomoseen, VT and completed her Registered Nurse training at Rutland Hospital in 1948.

Marge was best known for her unique style of nursing — equal parts traditional skilled nursing, common sense, and natural remedies. After retiring in 1997, she continued to provide compassionate care and sage advice to family and friends until the end.

Marge made a home for her family in Ridgefield, CT in 1960, where she remained until moving to the Cascades in Bethel, CT in 2005. Never one to sit around, Marge embraced all that life at the Cascades had to offer, including tobogganing, motorcycle riding and a memorable hot air balloon ride — all covered by the local newspaper! Her zest for life will be missed by all who knew and loved her!

A longtime member of St. Mary’s Church in Ridgefield, Marge’s Catholic faith was unshakable. She was a member of Columbiettes Knights of Columbus auxiliary, Ancient Order of Hibernians and Volunteers of America. A passionate supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, Marge helped establish Cub Scout Packs and Boy Scout Troops locally and served as Camp Mauwehu Nurse for many years; earning BSA’s highest honor, the Silver Fawn. She was extraordinarily proud that all three of her sons achieved Eagle Scout distinction.

Marge was predeceased by husbands J. Herbert McKee and Gene Casagrande, as well as by her parents and seven of her siblings. She is survived by her sons Sean McKee of Ridgefield, Dan McKee (Sissy) of Brookfield, and Tim McKee (Lisa) of Herndon, VA; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, her sister Mary Spenard of Southbury, CT, and several nieces and nephews.

We want to extend our profound gratitude to the remarkable staff at Cascades and Bethel Healthcare — Marge’s extended family. She loved you all!

A celebration of Marge’s life is planned for mid-September.
