Josephine Babesh Connelly, 85, of Ridgefield, Connecticut, passed away on Friday, December 15, 2017 after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. The beloved wife of James Patrick Connelly, Josephine was born on September 11, 1932 in Langhorne, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Andrew Babesh and Josephine (Klineska) Babesh.

Mrs. Connelly is survived by her four children: son, Arthur Michaelsen, Jr., (Julia) of Brookfield, and daughters Diane Michaelsen of Naugatuck, Joanne Moore (James) of Litchfield, and Nancy (Noel) Burke of Milford.  Additionally, she is survived by Joseph and Melinda Connelly of Wilton, Elizabeth and Ronald Greenman of Tallahassee, Florida, Mary and Edward Ronan of Brookfield, Faith of North Carolina, and Maria Connelly of Port Charlotte, Florida. She was predeceased by James P. Connelly, Jr. of Port Charlotte.

In addition, Josephine is survived by sixteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her sisters, Elizabeth McCain and Rosalie (Arland) Johnson of Florence, Oregon. Her brother, Andrew Babesh, and her sister, Marie Doll, both of Pennsylvania, predeceased her.

Educated in Langhorne, Josephine was a Registered Nurse, who served as a Nurse in the United States Navy, stationed at St. Albans Hospital in New York. She served as a Naval Nurse for three years, and was honorably discharged in 1955.

Josephine enjoyed a long nursing career with the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Wilton, Norwalk Hospital, Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, and the Ridgefield Visiting Nurses Association in Ridgefield.

An active member of St. Mary’s Parish, Josephine was a founding member of the Stephen Ministry and she attended Bible Study classes. She enjoyed attending classes at Founders’ Hall, and volunteering at St. Mary’s School in Ridgefield and at Sacred Heart/St. Peter’s School in Danbury.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, December 20 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm, at Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 21 at 10:15 am at St. Mary’s Church, 55 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield.  Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ridgefield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary’s Parish of Ridgefield, Regional Hospice and Palliative Care in Danbury or to a charitable organization of the one’s choice.
