Irene Prosk, 93, of Ridgefield, CT, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2018. She is remembered with love by her family and friends.

Born in New York, NY on August 10, 1924, Irene was the daughter of Paul and Sophie (Lasky) Prosk and sister to Jean and Frederick. Irene always spoke very fondly of her family and her life growing up in Greenwich Village.

During a long and very interesting professional career, Irene worked for Cunard Lines, whose ships the Queen Mary and the Queen Elizabeth, also known as “The Magnificent Queens,” were commissioned by the British government to transport troops during World War II. From Cunard she then worked for Holland America Lines. Irene enjoyed and was proud of her work with these two illustrious companies.

Irene moved to Ridgefield in the 70s to live with her sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Walter Urda of Fieldcrest Drive. The family remained very close until their passing.

Those close to Irene can attest that her passion for books, culture, travel and music never waned. She would exuberantly describe her favorite novels and was eager to share her enthusiasm for classical music with others. She was known on occasion to play her music loudly out the front door for her neighbors to hear, a testament to her bright spirit.

A graveside service was held on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at 2:00pm at the Hillside Cemetery in Wilton, CT. There were no calling hours.
