Obituary: Gloria M. (Lavatori) Sharkany, 93, of Ridgefield
Gloria M. (Lavatori) Sharkany, 93, of Ridgefield, loving wife of the late Robert A. Sharkany, passed away on Monday, September 10, 2018.
Mrs. Sharkany was born in Ridgefield, CT on November 29, 1924, a daughter of the late Nazzareno and Nina (Roberti) Lavatori. She was a lifelong resident of Ridgefield and loved her town.
Gloria was a graduate of Ridgefield High School; she was also a longtime cook at Nina’s Restaurant, where many of the customers were also her friends. She enjoyed playing high school basketball, bowling, and rarely missed a televised UCONN basketball or Yankees game. She was a past president of the Italian Mutual Aid Society Women’s Auxiliary, former member of the Ridgefield Historical Society, and a life long parishioner of St. Mary’s Church.
Gloria was a kind and caring woman, always ready to help family and friends.
She is survived by her son, Patrick Sharkany of Bethel; and her brother, Gene Lavatori and sister, Angie (Lavatori) Santini, both of Ridgefield. She was predeceased by her husband, Bob; two brothers, John and Ponziano Lavatori and a sister, Margaret Lavatori Kunak. She loved her extended family which include many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 17, 2018 at 10:15 AM, at St. Mary’s Church, 55 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ridgefield. Friends will be received on Sunday, September 16, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ridgefield Volunteer Fire Department, 6 Catoonah St., Ridgefield.
