Mary Weitzel Spitzer, 95, legal assistant, loved to dance
Mary (Weitzel) Spitzer, 95, of Ridgefield, wife of the late Philip K. Spitzer, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 17, 2014 at Candlewood Valley Health Care Center, New Milford, CT. while recovering from a short illness.
Mrs. Spitzer was born in New York, NY, October 21, 1918, a daughter of Elizabeth (Becker) and Charles W. Weitzel, Sr.
A lifelong Ridgefield resident moving to Ridgefield at the age of two, Mrs. Spitzer was a legal assistant for many years to lawyers in Norwalk and Ridgefield until her retirement. She also was a member of the First Congregational Church of Ridgefield.
She is survived by a son, Craig P. Spitzer and his wife, Pam of Bridgewater, CT; a sister, Helen Chapman of Houston, TX, Grandson, Craig Spitzer Jr. and his wife Niki of Ridgefield, Granddaughter Michelle Murphy and her husband Bill of Bridgewater, two great grandchildren - Timothy and Caitlin Murphy and a very special niece, Kaye Bloomer of Wollaston, Mass. besides many other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Spitzer was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Bloomer and by a brother, Charles W. Weitzel, Jr.
She entertained frequently and especially enjoyed the company of her friends at their monthly "Girls Club". She also looked forward to the many trips and visits with her niece Kaye.
Mary and Phil were avid dancers with their friends at the Shore and Country Club in Norwalk on Saturday nights and there trips to Florida in the winter.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2 to 4 pm, with funeral service at 4:00 in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield, with the Rev. Dr. Charles Hambrick-Stowe, Senior Pastor of the First Congregational Church of Ridgefield, officiating.
Interment will take place in Bald Hill Cemetery, Wilton in the spring.
