Margaret E. Carpenter Cornell, a former Ridgefielder, died Monday, May 6, at York Hospital in York, Maine. She was 84 years old.

Born in Chester, Pa., Peggy Cornell attended Goldey-Becom College in Wilmington, Del., and worked as a secretary for Sun Oil.

Mrs. Cornell was an avid NASCAR enthusiast and loyal fan of Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Her favorite musical artist was Kenny Chesney.

Mrs. Cornell is survived by her husband of 64 years, Frederick, of South Berwick, Maine, formerly of Georgetown, S.C., and Ridgefield;  her two sons, Barry of Galveston, Texas and Eric (wife Karen) of Danville, N.H., daughter, Sherry of South Berwick, Maine, sister-in-laws, Dorothy Carpenter, Lois (husband Stan) Carter and Phyllis Mattera, grandchildren, Brian, Jonathan (wife Sarah), Madison and Kaitlyn Cornell; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held later this summer at the Wm. A Carpenter Chapel, Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, Pa.
