John Hinson, 81, Navy veteran, builder, former Ridgefielder
John Carroll Hinson, 81, of Ridgefield, CT and Brewster, MA passed away peacefully on June 30, 2012.
John was born in Hartsdale, NY on May 10, 1931, son of the late Jay and Lucile Hinson. He attended Hartsdale Public schools, and graduated from The Merchant Marine College at Fort Schuyler, NY, as an ensign, often referring to himself as Ensign Hinson. He sailed the world three times with the Merchant Marines and later as a first lieutenant in the US Navy during the Korean War.
John was a navigator and in later life taught several would-be sailors his art at his beloved Cape Cod. He was always a sailor at heart and would spend time gazing at the seascape of Pleasant Bay.
John and his wife, June Flood Hinson, lived in Ridgefield, CT, building several homes, as John was a self-taught finish carpenter. He moved his family to Cape Cod, where he remained until this year, moving back home to the Danbury area.
John is survived by his wife and two sons, John P Hinson and his wife Nancy of Crystal Lake, IL, and Scott Hinson of New Milford; two grandchildren Alex and Hannah; his sisters, June Tschauder of Southbury, Jacqulin Fincham of Topeka, KS; a brother, Jay Hinson of Machias, ME and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of John's Voyage, on Tuesday July 3, 2012, 11:00 am at his son Scott's home, 910 Candlewood Lake Rd South, New Milford, CT.
