Southbury - Jean K. (Sabbatini) Royal, 89, of Southbury, formerly of Ridgefield, died peacefully April 27, 2016.  Jean was born in 1926, the daughter of Louis Sabbatini & Mary (Petrini) Sabbatini.

She graduated from Ridgefield High School and worked on planes during WWII as a “Rosie the Riveter” while writing to her NAVY pen pal Bill Royal who would become her husband of over 50 years.  Jean worked a variety of jobs while also managing home making for a family of 4.  Her favorite jobs involved socializing with people, whether at Branchville Elementary School in the cafeteria or at the IBM facility in food service.  She never met a stranger and will always be remembered for her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor.  She would often break into song and dance when least expected.  It was impossible not to join her since her spunky personality was contagious.  She loved spending time with her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids which would often end up at Friendly’s for ice cream or under “her” tree chatting with friends at Grace Meadows.

She is survived by four children, Ken Royal , Sandy Bedient of Oxford and her husband Kevin, Tina Royal of Naugatuck, Connie Nickols of Keller, TX and her husband Tray.  She also leaves seven grandchildren: Melanie, Amber, Justin, Cynthia, Chad, Kyle, Kate;  and 10 great grandchildren:  Tre`, Sydney, Kaleigh, Gabe, Toby, Olivia, Jack, Emily, Tristan, and Haylee.

There will be a memorial/celebration of life on Sunday May 1, 2016 from 2-4 at the Southbury Firemen’s Assoc., Main St. South, Southbury.  Burial will be private and arrangements are by Carpino Funeral Home, Southbury.   For online condolences, please visit www.carpinofuneralhome.com
