Janet Arfmann Eastman, 74, gardener, volunteer, mother
Janet Arfmann Eastman, 74, of Ridgefield, CT, passed away suddenly on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Danbury Hospital. Mrs. Eastman was born in Middletown, NY, on October 2, 1941, daughter of the late John H. Arfmann, Jr. and Mildred (Halliday) Arfmann. Raised in Orange County, NY, Janet grew up enjoying time at her Grandfather's farm along with her extended family and was very involved in her community, church, and schools.
After attending Centenary College, Janet lived in New York City where she worked for Conde Naste as a production assistant for Vogue Magazine. While at Vogue, she met her future husband, William H. Eastman of Port Washington, NY. Married in 1962, Janet and Bill started their life together on Long Island, NY, moving to Rye, NY in 1972 where they raised their family. Janet was a devoted mother, avid gardener and thoroughly enjoyed her years volunteering for United Hospital as a member of the 28th Twig in Rye, NY. She was an accomplished insurance broker and worked with her husband to grow their independent insurance agency into a highly successful business. Janet will be forever remembered for the kindness and generosity she shared with everyone she met and her endless love of family and friends.
Mrs. Eastman has been a resident of Ridgefield, CT for the past fourteen years where she enjoyed life with her husband of 53 years. Janet will be deeply missed by her husband, William, her two daughters, Kelly Eastman of North Salem, NY and Heather Eastman Paturzo and her husband, Anthony M. Paturzo of Madison, CT; a brother John H. Arfmann III and his wife, Kathryn Criss Arfmann of Lewisville, NC; a sister, Joan Arfmann Morgan and her husband , John of Webster, NY; four grandchildren, Alexandra Blair Fraioli, Kate Elizabeth Fraioli, William Anthony Paturzo, Lillian Grace Paturzo. and 14 nieces and nephews.
A private chapel service will take place on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at The First Congregation Church in Ridgefield, CT at 11 AM. The family will receive friends during a Memorial Service on Sunday, November 22, 2015at Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St. Ridgefield, CT with the Rev. Dr. Charles Hambrick-Stowe between the hours of 1:00PM – 3:00PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Eastman’s memory may be made to the Ridgefield Fire Department Ambulance Fund, 6 Catoonah St. Ridgefield, CT 06877, The American Red Cross, or The Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation.
