James G. “Jay” Nuland died, after a long illness, on Christmas Day. He was a resident of Ridgefield Crossings and formerly of Dallas, Texas, and Quogue, N.Y.

Mr. Nuland was born in Tianjin, China, on March 19, 1925, and lived in Tianjin, Wellington, New Zealand and Cape Town, South Africa, before coming to the U.S. to attend the Kent School. He recieved his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Harvard and spent time at Yale at Officer Training School.

He served in the Navy as a lieutenant, J.G. in the South Pacific during World War II and worked as a partner in several financial firms in New York before moving to Texas to work in the oil business. Upon his retirement, he was senior vice president of investor relations for the Halliburton Company.

Mr. Nuland was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen Fitz-Gibbon, and his daughter, Patricia Chandler, and is survived by three sons and their wives; James Jr. and Tris of Duxbury, Mass., Christopher and Karen of Jacksonville, Fla., and Timothy and Kitsey of Ridgefield, a son-in-law, Rick, and his wife, Suzie Chandler of Ashfield, Mass., twelve grandchildren and three great grandsons.

Services were held Monday, Dec. 29, in Quogue. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, 39 Old Ridgebury Road, Danbury, CT 06810.
