Henry Hines Sr., 58, worked as engineer
Henry “Clay” Hines Sr. of Bethel, who worked in Ridgefield for decades, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014 at his home.
He was the husband of Ellen Perrine Hines, and they have lived in Bethel for 32 years. They have three children: Henry Clay Jr., Conner Campbell, and Cayley Marie Hines.
Mr. Hines was born in Stamford on April 8, 1956, son of Gordon and Priscilla Blaikie Hines, and grew up in Darien. He attended the King School in Stamford and then went on to graduate from The Hotchkiss School in Lakeville. He spent many years visiting and working with his family on Holiday Farm in New Harford.
Mr. and Mrs. Hines met at Cornell University where Mr. Hines studied civil engineering and received his master’s degree in structural engineering. The two were married in 1982 in Centerport, N.Y. He was a member of Theta Delta Chi Fraternity at Cornell.
He has been with The DiSalvo Engineering Group in Ridgefield since 1983 and as a principal since 1995. He worked on many local projects, including Bethel Middle School, Church of St. Mary in Bethel and the Ridgefield Library.
He also coached soccer in Bethel.
In addition to his wife and three children he is survived by siblings Pam Monroe Dekker of Boothbay Harbor, Maine, Nancy H. Senftleben of Westport, Gordon Hines of New Hartford, and Blaikie Hines of Thomaston, Maine; brother and sister-in-law Gerard Perrine of Potomac, Md., and Stacey P. Sass of Annapolis, Md.; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Church, 26 Dodgingtown Road in Bethel on Thursday morning, Aug. 28. at 10. Cremation will be private.
