Gertrude Foley Wengrove, a 10-year Ridgefielder, died Wednesday, July 18, surrounded by her family. She was 97.

Mrs. Wengrove was born Dec. 3, 1914 in Brooklyn, N.Y., and previously lived in Scottsdale, Ariz., and Ft. Myers, Fla.

A graduate of Bishop McDonald High School in Brooklyn, she was active in Girl Scouts of America for many years. She was a medical transcriber for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and Scottsdale Memorial Hospital.

“A soft-spoken, fun-loving person, dancer, avid reader and English language enthusiast, Gertrude will be dearly missed by her family and friends,” her family said.

She is is survived by her three daughters and son and their families, Julianne and John Maggio of Ridgefield, Gracemarie and Thomas Kehoe of Collingswood, N.J., Claire and Dennis Avery of Ft. Myers, and James and Kimberly Wengrove of Arvada, Colo.; 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Anthony Wengrove, a son, Charles Joseph Wengrove, her grandchild, Kathleen Mary Kehoe, a sister, three brothers and their families, Gracemarie Foley, William Foley, James Foley, Edmund Foley and her parents, Julia Harris and James J. Foley.

Services at St. Mary’s Church will be announced by the Kane Funeral Home.
