Gerald A. Myers of Brookfield, a former Ridgefielder who had been sexton at St. Stephen’s Church for many years, died Sunday, March 17, at Danbury Hospital. He was 82 years old and the husband of Lois G. Keeler Myers.

Mr. Myers was born in Stamford on Aug. 28, 1930, son of the late Edwin J. and Dorothy C. Bennett Myers.

He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in the Korean War. He spent 21 years as a caretaker and sexton at St. Stephen’s Church, retiring in 1995.

Mr. Myers was a 50-year member of Jerusalem  Lodge #49 AF & AM in Ridgefield, and an honorary member of St. Luke’s  Lodge  in Kent and St. Peter’s Lodge #21 in New Milford. He was a member and former commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3052 in Ridgefield, and a member of the American Legion Post and St. Andrew’s Altar Guild, both in Kent.

Besides his wife of 59 years, he is survived by two sons, Capt. Jerry M. Myers, a Ridgefield firefighter, and Terry B. Myers;  a brother, Gene L. Myers; a sister, Alice L. Myers; and six grandchildren, Kristen, Timothy, Stephanie, Peter, Max and Victoria.

A memorial service will take place on Thursday, March 21, at 7 p.m. at St. Peter’s Masonic Lodge #21, 11 Aspetuck Avenue, New Milford.

Arrangements are being handled by the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford.
