Frances Hamilton, business executive
Frances Colflesh Hamilton, 86, of Ridgefield, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2016. She was the loving wife of Mr. Ross E. Hamilton.
Mrs. Hamilton was born on December 26, 1929 in Columbia Hospital for Women, Washington DC; a daughter of the late Robert and Martha Waring Colflesh. She attended St. Katharine’s School in Davenport, IA., before attending Wellesley College and the University of Iowa.
Upon graduation, she went to work for Mountain States Telephone Company in Des Moines and was then offered a transfer to AT&T in New York City as the first transferred female executive.
A resident of Ridgefield for the past 44 years, Mrs. Hamilton was a Nursing Staff Scheduler for Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, CT., a qualified enrolled tax agent, and an Office Manager for two different local Danbury businesses
Mrs. Hamilton is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ross, and their three daughters: Martha Waring Hamilton Howard and her husband, John; Frances Fleck Hamilton; and Sarah Anne Hamilton and her partner, Joe Snow. She is also survived by two grandchildren: Campbell and Thayden. In addition to her husband, children and grandchildren, Mrs. Hamilton is also survived by a sister, Martha McMahon and a stepsister, Julia Prescott.
Mrs. Hamilton was very active in her church, St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church of Ridgefield. She was a member of the St. Stephen’s Altar Guild and the church Vestry and she was also a volunteer and a co-chair for the annual Nutmeg Festival. Mrs. Hamilton was also a member of the Caudatowa Garden Club. She loved bird watching, playing piano, needlework, gardening, cooking, music, and art.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church on July 30, 2016, at 1:00 pm. There will be no calling hours.
