Enid Lorraine (Barron) Gearity, 89, died aon Thursday, July 10, in the VITAS Innovative Hospice Care unit at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was the wife of Wilbur Gearity of Southbury.

Ms. Gearity was born on Dec. 13, 1924, in Kennett, Mo., daughter of the late Lewis and Vera (Roland) Barron. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Lincoln, Nebr., and the University of Nebraska, earning a bachelor’s degree in Journalism in 1944.

Mr. and Mrs. Gearity were married in 1944, raised five children and enjoyed almost 70 years of marriage. They lived in Lincoln, Kissimmee, Fla., Brooklyn, N.Y., Long Island and in Connecticut.

During their 12 years in Ridgefield, Ms. Gearity was the president of the Women’s Town Club of Ridgefield and a volunteer with the OWLS senior center group.

Ms. Gearity enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and her friends in and around Heritage Village. She enjoyed gardening, and in the spring she would plant flowers along the walkways and hang as many flower baskets around her condo property as there were hooks to hold them, her family said.

In addition to Mr. Gearity , Ms. Gearity is survived by her daughters Patricia Gearity of Asheville, N.C., Cathy Gearity Bory and her husband John Bory of Deer Park, N.Y., and Lee Anne Gearity Candito of Simsbury. She is also survived by her son Richard and his wife Kelly of Woodbury and her daughter-in-law Sunita Gearity of Fairfax, Va.

She was predeceased by her son James of Fairfax.

She had eight grandchildren: John and his wife, Carolyn, Matthew, Genevieve, Ryan, Caitlyn, Sara, Lyndsay and Megan.

Ms. Gearity and her family expressed gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of St. Mary’s hospital-Waterbury, especially those on Xavier 3 as well as the VITAS Hospice Care unit.
