Eleanore J. Williams, thrift shop volunteer
Eleanore J. Williams, a Ridgefield resident from 1967 to 2003, died on Monday, May 12, in Harwich, Mass., where she was cared for by her daughter, Lauren.
As a member of the Ridgefield Thrift Shop from 1980 to 2012, she served as both president and vice president. She was known for her hard work and creative talent, especially for her handmade doll dresses for donated dolls to be sold, the Christmas sale, as well as her hand-knit sweater and hats that many a teddy bear donned. She often spoke of how proud she was of the volunteer work done by the members because the sales’ proceeds allowed many generous donations to worthy causes and the funding of scholarships.
She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas C. Williams, and survived by daughters, Gerian and Lauren, son Thomas and his wife Mary and her grandchildren, Evan, Ellis, Austin and Arielle, as well as a sister, Emma Herlihy.
No memorial is planned at this time, but donations in her name may be made to the Ridgefield VNA, 90 E. Ridge Rd., Ridgefield, CT 06877.
