John Stathis, age 94, of Longmont Colo., formerly of Rockaway Beach, N.Y., and Juno Beach, Fla., died in his sleep May 23, 2014.

He was the father of a Ridgefield resident.

He was born Sept. 21, 1919 in New York City to Peter and Agnes Stathis, both of whom had immigrated to the United States from Kastoria, Greece. His father owned a fur manufacturing business. Dr. Stathis worked for his father summers to earn his tuition to Columbia College. After earning a Bachelor of Science, he attended medical school at New York University. he married Mary Vanta. Oct. 29. 1944.

He served in World War II and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War.

From 1954 until his retirement he lived in Rockaway Beach and then moved to Juno Beach, Fla.

He is predeceased by his wife and his brother, Theodore Stathis.

He is survived by his son, Peter and daughter in law, Carole, of Ridgefield, Connecticut; son, Louie and daughter in law, Fran, of Belle Harbor, N.Y.; and son, John Paul and daughter in law, Arlene, of Longmont, Colo.

He is also survived by nine grandchildren: June Browne and her husband, Christopher; Rachel Weiss and her husband, Paul; Kristen Viesselman and her husband, Christian; JohnPatrick Stathis; Kristina Egan and her husband, William; Marika Kalasountas and her husband, Pete; Alexis Stathis; Candace Stathis; and Juliette Stathis. In addition John was survived by great grandchildren: Candice, Cameron, and Danielle Weiss; Riley and Kirsten Browne; Colby, Casey and Kaitlyn Viesselman; William and Kayla Egan.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 3 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 8435 152 Street, Jamaica, New York 11432.   The burial will follow.
