Winter storm damage: Ridgefield leads state in power outages
More than 3,000 Ridgefield residents are without power as of 4 p.m. Friday, March 2.
Ridgefield currently has the most power outages — 28% of Eversource customers — in the state of Connecticut, according to the utility company's outage map.
Several key traffic lights on Danbury Road are out, and at least four businesses on Grove Street have reported being powerless.
Police, fire and highway workers are working on moving debris from roads around town.
Some of the roads that have suffered from power outages, downed trees, and downed power lines include:
- Mamanasco Road
- Old West Mountain Road
- Keeler Drive
- Maple Shade Road
- Great Hill Road
- Tackora Trail
- Barrack Hill
- Florida Hill Road
- North Salem Road
- Poplar Road
Two downed wires have ignited and caused fires thus far, the fire department reports.
All drivers are being cautioned to stay off the road unless absolutely necessary.
Heavy winds — some as high as 55 miles per hour — are predicted throughout Friday night, the National Weather Service said in its latest report at 3 p.m.
