The Ridgefield Rays 14U Babe Ruth baseball team is headed to France and the Netherlands next month for a pair of international tournaments. The local team will take a little piece of home with them as well — the key to the town of Ridgefield, which was offered to them by First Selectman Rudy Marconi.

The team plans to present the key to its host city of La Guerche-de-Bretagne, France. This will be the first time the French city has hosted an American team, according to Rays head coach John O’Leary.

“This team has grown together so much over the past two years in all areas of the sport and has become a very competitive team,” O’Leary said. “We are working hard for the next three months to prepare for the tour as we know the expectations are high for a U.S. team in this sport.”

Ridgefield Babe Ruth is a nonprofit youth baseball program for kids aged 13-18. Readers who wish to donate to help the team go to Europe should visit their website at www.RidgefieldRays.org
