A sidewalk for New Street!

After years of lobbying by residents, the town will be putting in a sidewalk along much of New Street, one of the village’s no-longer-so-quiet residential roadways.

First Selectman Rudy Marconi said the project will probably be undertaken next year. The town has gotten a $365,000 “connectivity grant” from the state to finance the work.

“Many people have lobbied over the years, and New Street has been on the town engineer’s list due to the amount of traffic and speed of traffic,” Marconi said. “It is used often as a shortcut from 116.”

The sidewalk will be on only one side the road — the east side — and won’t go the full length of New Street. It’ll run from the corner of Gilbert Street, which has sidewalks now, down New Street to Pound Street, then east along Pound to connect with the sidewalk on the west side of Main Street.
