Flooding from the heavy rains has closed George Washington Highway in northern Ridgefield, and town emergency and highway workers had a busy morning dealing with weather-related difficulties.

"That’s it right now," the Police Department said, confirming the closure of George Washington Highway about 11:30 Friday morning. "Just normal trees down, but they’ve all been cleared."

The Highway Department, just earlier, reported a lot of flooding-related activities.

"They’re all out on the road, they’re busy," said a dispatcher. "We're swamped here right now."
