Emergency management director: Avoid any unnecessary driving, outdoor activity

Ridgefield's Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has announced 15 roads are blocked in town due to downed trees and wires Monday, Feb. 25.

Heavy winds have caused blocked roads and power outages since early Monday morning.

The list of Eversource customers without power has shrunk from 1,200 around 10 a.m. to 700 this afternoon.

"The EOC is urging Ridgefielders to use extreme caution and avoid any unnecessary driving or outdoor activity," said Dick Aarons,  the town's emergency management director.

The dangerous winds are expected to continue until at least 6 p.m., according to Aarons.

"As always, assume any downed wire is energized and can kill," he said.

Report power outages to Eversource at 800-286-2000. Town highway crews are working to clear downed trees that do not involve power line entanglement. Eversource has line crews in town, but high winds can slow down their work.
