The first snowstorm of 2018 has done enough damage that the school district has decided to close all nine of its schools Friday, Jan. 5, and give students and faculty a four-day weekend.

Ridgefield Public Schools announced the closure around 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, as snow was still falling in town.

"All schools and offices will be closed Friday, January 5, due to the winter storm, continued poor conditions, and necessary cleanup," the district tweeted.

The storm's heavy winds continue to create visibility for drivers who are braving the elements.

The Ridgefield Police Department has reported no accidents as of 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4.
