Asbestos tile abatement at Scotland Elementary School will cost taxpayers $23,500 less than it was originally budgeted, according to the school board’s budget and finance committee.
Assistant Superintendent Craig Creller recommended a bid for $98,400 to hire West Hartford-based HazPros Environmental Construction to remove asbestos floor tile and mastic from the elementary school.
“There were three competitive bids,” said Creller. “That’s a pretty tight industry, you have to be licensed and monitored.”
“Have they done other work in the district?” asked Douglas Silver, Board of Education vice chair.
“They have done some work in the district, but not all,” Creller said.
The Board of Education approved the bid at their June 24 meeting.
