U.S. Sen. Christopher Murphy appears to have overwhelmingly won a second term Tuesday night.

Polls had barely closed when media outlets called the race for the 45-year-old Murphy against Republican Matthew Corey.

Murphy won Ridgefield's district one handily, defeating Corey 2,422 to 1,621. He received more votes than any other candidate on the ballot at that polling station. So far, district one is the only station to post its numbers. The other two polls have reported problems with their balloting machines.
