Ridgefield police investigating three vehicle larcenies at rec center
Ridgefield police have reported that three vehicles parked at the Parks and Recreation Center on Danbury Road were broken into around 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19.
All three vehicles had their windows smashed in and items stolen, similar to a series of larcenies that happened at the rec center in July 2016.
Capt. Jeff Kreitz warned residents to remove any valuables from inside their cars, as well as locking their doors.
“Thieves target parking areas where individuals are more likely to leave their personal belongings behind such as gym facilities and outdoor recreation areas,” he said.
He later added that the perpetrators also target valuables left in daycare center parking lots. He asked that residents remain aware of their surroundings, and to look for anyone who may be acting suspicious.
Kreitz said the police do not suspect the incident is related to reports of stolen cars by a gang of youths out of the Waterbury area, as that group tends to focus on unlocked vehicles targeted in the middle of the night. He said the police do not know if this is the work of a group, or of a single perpetrator.
