McKnight graduates from state police academy

Ridgefield police officer Mike McKnight graduated from the Connecticut Police Academy Friday, Dec. 21.

A 2009 graduate of Ridgefield High School, McKnight was hired by the department over the summer. He received his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Springfield (Mass.) College, and served as a volunteer firefighter in town for five years.

He will have 400 hours of training to complete with the department before he’s sent out on patrol on his own.

McKnight’s father recently retired from the town Parks and Recreation Department, where his mother still works.

He will be the sixth Ridgefield native to serve in the department.

“They’re a great group of guys,” McKnight told The Press in July. “Obviously, they do so much for the town. Even on-duty, off-duty — it’s just something that I’m really looking forward to be a part of, and stay in Ridgefield.”
