Ridgefield Police Chief Jeff Kreitz was sworn in during a ceremony at Lounsbury House Wednesday, Nov. 14.

Police Commission Chair Charlie Knoche delivered a speech before town clerk Wendy Lionetti led Kreitz in reciting his oath as Chief of Police.

Molly Kreitz, his wife, pinned the police chief’s badge on the lapel of his uniform.

Commission secretary George Kain and First Selectman Rudy Marconi both delivered remarks before the ceremony concluded.

A Ridgefield native, Kreitz joined the department in 2003 after graduating from Western Connecticut State University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He was named the department’s public information officer five years ago, and also oversaw the department’s training program.

He replaces Chief John Roche, who retired and passed away in August, after having led the department for a decade.

Kreitz was named officer of the year in 2016.
