Western Connecticut State University's White Hall is locked down Monday afternoon, according to Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton.

Connecticut state police report that troopers were on scene investigating an "unconfirmed report of person w/gun," along with officers from the Danbury Police Department and the school's midtown campus police, at 12:53 p.m. Monday, June 4.

"There is no active shooter," the state police's Twitter handle said. "Shots have not been fired. WCSU is locked down as investigation continues."

The News-Times reported that Danbury police had a person in custody.

The newspaper's report also said that someone with "a long gun" walked into White Hall, which is part of West Conn's downtown campus.

"It was not clear if the person police had in custody was the suspect who was thought to have a gun," The News-Times said.

A source told The Press that gunshots were fired but that they were from a hunter near the westside campus of West Conn.

Another person inside the building told The Press that she found shelter in a conference room.

"[Police are] looking for possible 2nd person," she said from inside the locked down building.

Danbury Police had not released any information as of 1:06 p.m.

School alert

The school alerted its students and faculty with an email blast at 1:05 p.m.

"Police are currently investigating an unconfirmed report of a man with a gun in White Hall on the Midtown campus," the alert said.

"Many people have been evacuated and others are sheltering in place in the building and throughout the Midtown campus.

"An individual has been apprehended and police are continuing to search White Hall to make sure there is not a second individual of concern."

The announcement asked students and faculty to "please continue to shelter in place until further notice."
