Car slides down snowy hill after DUI crash on Lounsbury Lane
A Lounsbury Lane man was arrested for driving under the influence and failure to maintain the proper lane near his home around 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9.
Ridgefield police said William Burns, 71, drove off the road and crashed his car into a tree on Lounsbury Lane.
Burns’s car, which slid several feet down a snowy hill, came to a rest on the front lawn of a Lounsbury Lane home, according to a report.
Police said Burns’s car struck a stone wall on the home’s property, which helped it come to a rest.
Burns was driven away from the scene in handcuffs by uniformed officers. Police present at the scene said only that Burns had been detained in connection with the accident, but Capt. Jeff Kreitz later confirmed that he had been charged for driving under the influence after patrol officers conducted a field sobriety test.
The crash was severe enough to set off the curtain airbags on the driver’s side of the car.
A tow truck arrived at 11:25 to pull the car free from the snow-covered hill. Traffic was unimpeded by the accident, with both Lounsbury Lane and surrounding roads kept open by police.
Burns posted bond of $150, and was released later that same day. He is set to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Tuesday, Jan. 23.
