The competition is on to succeed Barbara Serfilippi as town clerk. \u201cAs of today, we have four applications,\u201d First Selectman Rudy Marconi said July 16. \u201cAnyone interested must have their application in by Aug. 1st.\u201d Marconi said he plans to discuss the vacancy with fellow members of the Board of Selectmen on Wednesday, July 25, with an eye to voting on a replacement at the board\u2019s meeting planned for Wednesday, Aug. 8. \u201cThat way whoever it is will have an opportunity to spend time with the current town clerk, Mrs. Serfilippi.\u201d Barbara Serfilippi announced her retirement as of Aug. 31. Town clerk is an elected position with an annual salary \u2014 \u00a0currently $89,100 \u2014 that is set in the town budget regardless of who holds the job. Because it is an elected position, whoever is appointed to succeed Ms. Serfilippi must be a registered Ridgefield voter who is a member of the same party as the retiring town clerk \u2014 \u00a0Republican. The appointment will be to fill the position until the November 2019 election, when town clerk\u2019s position will again be on the ballot. Town Human Resources Director Laurie Fernandez\u2019s office describes the position\u2019s basic function as \u201cto manage the daily operation of the town clerk\u2019s office.\u201d This is followed by a list of 21 duties that range from \u201cacts as registrar of vital statistics\u201d and \u201creports daily to Finance Department accounting for fees collected\u201d to \u201crecords and maintains deeds, liens, mortgages, attachments, legal documents and provides for the security of all legal documents recorded, per C.G.S.
