Farmingville Elementary held its second annual Invention Convention on March 1. Third through fifth grade student inventor brains were on fire solving everyday problems with creative solutions. A trio of community judges — Dina Brewster from the Hickories, Mike Principi from Chez Lenard Hot Dogs, and Steve Coulter from The Ridgefield Press — helped select the inventors who moved on to the Connecticut Western Regional Competition in Hamden. More than 1,600 students from across the state participated in Connecticut’s four regional level competitions. About 800 inventors are advancing to the Connecticut Invention Convention state competition (CIC), to be held April 28 at the University of Connecticut. Farmingville is proud to announce that three student inventors, Lino Marrero and The Sole Solution, Sophie Zezula and the Snow Straw, and Addison Avery Payne and The Out-Fit, have advanced and will present their inventions at the CIC. The school would also like to recognize Ashwika Krishnan and the Super Scooper for advancing to the Regional level and Brenna Williams and The Strainer Drainer for winning honorable mention at the Farmingville Invention Convention.
