A four-month old beagle from New York is receiving support from a local animal shelter. Looking Glass Animal Rescue has offered a $1,000 reward to any individual who participates with law enforcement and gives information that directly leads to the arrest of the person responsible for dragging, throwing, and beating the beagle puppy. The beagle, Cleo, was found tied up to a pole in the Bronx earlier this month. Daniela Raciti, director of marketing and operations at Looking Glass Animal Rescue, said Ridgefield residents can email us\firstname.lastname@example.org, call the NYPD, or dial Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS with any and all information they have — no matter how insignificant it may seem. "Through the police investigation and surveillance video we learned that Cleo was not only beaten, but also dragged from the back of a vehicle and thrown on the street before being tied to a pole," said Raciti. "It’s miraculous that she survived and thankfully she has been improving every day. She still has a long road ahead and we will do everything possible to help her heal and catch her abuser." Raciti told The Press that Cleo has since been rescued by a New York City woman named Madeline. “She is feeling happy, cozy and loved," Madeline said in a press release Friday, Sept. 28. "I got her some soft toys and a bed to make her feel at home and, we are all giving her lots of love. So far she is eating and taking her meds perfectly.” Jody Harris-Stern, co-founder of Looking Glass Animal Rescue, said a shelter support suggested the puppy be named Cleo. "I wanted one that was reflective of her determination, strength, and willingness to survive. She suggested Cleopatra and we chose to call her Cleo for short. Cleopatra was one of the bravest women in the history and one of the strongest," said Harris-Stern. Harris-Stern said the shelter was also requesting donations for Cleo's care. She said interested residents can follow the shelter on Facebook page for constant updates: https://www.facebook.com/LookingGlassAnimalRescue Looking Glass Animal Rescue is located at 26 Catoonah Street, Unit No. 1175. "With public’s help, we know we will find this person, ensuring the safety of our community."
