The Ridgefield Library and Aquarion Water Company will present a co-sponsored program on Thursday, March 22 at 1 p.m. Twig Holland, Program Coordinator for Aquarion Water Company will talk about how “conservation” needs to become part of the water supply vocabulary to ensure that everyone uses water wisely.

In 2016 southwestern Connecticut experienced the fifth worst drought since 1895. To ensure the supply of water for human consumption and fire protection, Aquarion, which supplies water to much of southwestern Fairfield County, worked collaboratively with local and state officials to increase water supply to the area, and to enact mandatory water restrictions that continued into 2017.

While demand has been reduced through water restrictions and normal seasonal trends, the Aquarion presentation will focus on the factors that lead to the severe drought conditions and offer suggestions for preserving the water supply moving forward.
