Barbara Newland, manager of the Danbury Walk to End Alzheimer’s fundraiser, accepted a proclamation from the Town of Ridgefield last week that recognizes June as Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month.
There are 78,000 people in Connecticut with Alzheimer’s and it’s the sixth leading cause of death with no cure. To raise awareness of this disease, lampposts in Ridgefield are adorned with purple ribbon and bows for the month of June.
The Danbury Walk to End Alzheimer’s is Sept. 22 at Western Connecticut State University, Westside Campus at the Ives Center off Lake Avenue in Danbury.
