The Kindness Mural: Youth Commission asks for community's creative help March 4-10

Spreading kindness among youth and community members is vital to a healthy, vibrant town.

That’s the message the Ridgefield Youth Commission wishes to spread through the addition of an abstract mural made of clay tiles that will hang outside the The Barn Teen Center facing Governor Street.

The visual reminder — titled simply, “The Kindness Mural” — will advocate for inclusion and deliver an unwritten message of kindness, according to Denise Qualey, the commission’s chair.

Students, community groups and members, business owners, and town employees will work together in creating the mural mosaic between Monday, March 4, and Saturday, March 10. The project will then be “brought to life” by professional muralists Joann and Bruce Hunter, owners of the Art Spot, Qualey told The Press.

The mural’s location has been approved by the Board of Selectmen, the Boys and Girls Club, and the Ridgefield Historical Society.

The Youth Commission asks for anyone interested in participating in the mural’s creation to sign up by emailing Jim Yavenditti at and requesting access to the commission’s sign-up page.

Community members interested in contributing to the commission’s Imagine Project, contact Qualey at 203-733-0451 or email
