Congregation Shir Shalom will host its annual Mitzvah Day Sunday, May 6, from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

"Don't miss this opportunity to help those in our community who are in need — and to spend the day working with a bunch of nice folks," too," said Debbie Landzberg, Social Action Committee co-chairperson, with Congregation Shir Shalom.

"We will reach out to Kids in Crisis, Daily Bread Food Pantry, SPCA of Westchester, Dorothy Day soup kitchen, Community Center of Northern Westchester and Women’s Center of Danbury just to name a few," she added. "Many charitable organizations are relying on us. Sign up and spread the word! We are also collecting new and gently used children's books for Danbury Family and Children's Aid!"

Congregation Shir Shalom is located 46 Peaceable Street in Ridgefield.

Work will take place between 1 and 3:30 p.m. Pizza will be served before that and ice cream sundaes afterwards!

From Landzberg:

Almost 150 volunteers of all ages will spend the day together doing meaningful work/helping our neighbors in Fairfield and Westchester counties.  Everyone from the community is welcome!   We have planned about 15 different activities both on-site and off-site including fleece blanket-making for Kids in Crisis, baking cookies for Dorothy Day soup kitchen, bagging candy and writing notes for members of the military overseas, potting flowers for nursing home residents, knitting hats for premature infants at Northern Westchester Hospital, making tolerance/kindness awareness buttons for our communities, washing windows for low-income elderly at Ballard Green, collecting food for the local food pantries at Stop and Shop and more.
